In response to the urgent need for ultrahigh-temperature, radiation-resistant, ablation-resistant, and corrosion-resistant materials in extreme environments such as aerospace, nuclear energy, and specialty metallurgy, he has been conducting long-term basic and applied research on the development of new ceramic/cermet materials for extreme environments, data-driven intelligent material design (machine learning), strengthening and toughening ultrahigh-temperature ceramics, and improving the radiation and corrosion resistance of carbide ceramics. He has presided over ten projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Heilongjiang Province, the National Key Laboratory of Science and Technology of China, and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation. He has also served as a key member of national key research and development projects, including national key R&D projects and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. His research interests include low-temperature densification and toughening of ultrahigh-temperature ceramics, preparation and property control of multi-component carbide solid solutions, and ceramic radiation resistance, corrosion resistance, thermal shock resistance, ablation resistance, and wear resistance. He has received three second-class provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, has been granted over 20 national invention patents, published over 80 academic papers, and co-authored one monograph.
