主要从事金属有机化学和主族元素有机化学的研究。研究内容包括新型稀土络合物合成极其在催化反应中应用;有机硼和硅卡宾相似体化学、多重键体系及有机硼和硅芳香和共轭功能分子的合成及性能研究。在主族元素有机化学研究方面发展了构筑有机硅多重键体系及有机硼芳香体系的新策略,高效合成了有机硅联烯结构体系及硅苯异构体,并研究了这些化合物性质,发展了多种类型的新型多重键体系及主族元素化学价键理论。在稀土有机研究方面,发展了活化稀土-杂原子化学键的活化方法,成功将其应用于有机硅的交叉偶联及加成反应,为拓展稀土的应用打下了基础。
